While a little tertiary to your point, the problem with the essay portions of the SAT and ACT was the reliability of the measure. With apologies that it's just our experience, outside of the service academies, we have found very few colleges that will even consider it for that reason.

I am working the process with my daughter... but I have often thought -- there is no way my sporty son (few years behind) would put up with the current day admissions game... starting a non-profit isn't even on his radar.

Hello Craig, Last week you stated the current SAT is a watered down version of the test we took 20 - 30 years ago. I am a proponent of using the SAT but if it is weak sauce, what is its use? My son received a 1440 on his March SAT (all self study) but because he goes to a Specialized high school in NYC he was depressed with the results. Even though he is an outstanding student with good extra curriculars, he believes he needs to retake the SAT. I think the SAT has an out-sized effect on college admissions process when students believe a 1440 is not a good score. Also, please explain why you have a problem with a kid, from a school that does not promote academic excellency, like specialize high schools, getting a boost on their application when they take the most rigorous classes and scores well on the SAT/ACT? Should not their grit in the face of academic headwinds based on the school they are attending count towards their continued grit in the future? This is not a personal biased since my child goes to a specialized school in NYC.

I'm a rising sophomore at UMich and find the whole thing absolutely nuts. It's obvious that things like "land acknowledgements" and explicitly professing your "preferred pronouns" are examples of thinly veiled political speech. Most of my friends, none of whom are partisans, think similarly; they just silently roll their eyes and move on because no one really has the courage to resist. It really just comes down to being wary of what classes you take and with what professors. I'm pre-law, so I honestly feel bolstered not to just blindly comply with these people.

The entire application process is tailored toward east coast girls infatuated with self help and Virginia Wolf essays. My son wrestles, plays baseball, runs track and loves math and science and is not impressed by much of the college process except for what some southern schools offer. When will this change? It’s been going on for forty years!

The uva tour has pronouns. Also a long section on enslaved labor. Little to no mention of Jefferson these days. Who decided that belongs on the admissions tour? There are historical tours available and that can and should be covered.

Experienced exactly this with a virtual tour for UConn. They started out with the pronouns and the land acknowledgment. They spent more time on their diversity and equity speech than telling them what the college actually offers in the way of an education. He quickly decided it wasn’t for him. Same with many of the SUNY schools.

Most of the schools my kids visited did the same

Hah! Northwestern had all of their tour guides start off our visit by stating their pronouns and then tried to get all the kids in our tour group to announce their pronouns.

Well what did you think they meant when they talk about "fit?" These young men along with those who do not share the collective world view of these institutions do not belong there nor do they stand much of a chance of being admitted. Simply put don't send your students there and refrain from hiring their graduates if you feel strongly enough about it.

Very difficult for Illinois students to get accepted to U of I. Most would rather attend Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Alabama, etc anyway.

You are not the only one, I am worried for our collective future with this big group of kids missing from top competitive colleges. But on the other hand, maybe those top colleges are digging their own graves by suppressing this group of kids and forcing them to spread to other southern or state colleges. Maybe it's a good thing for America to shift the prestige away from Northeastern elites and distribute them more evenly.

I love you Craig but the top 5 list is so red-blooded American man. I cannot count how many times my friends ask each other to name their top 5. Whether it is basketball players, quarterbacks, rappers, movies & etc. I get your beef with DEI questions but as a New Yorker this is not a hard question for us but maybe for a rural student. Maybe these questions should not be on the supplement prompt but I do not think a red blooded American man from major cities would have a problem answering them. Also, I do not have a problem with boys being nicer. I grew up in NYC when most boys had to have, at least, a couple of fights because that was how boys expressed themselves. Fighting used to by a right of passage (even amongst boys in your friend group). I am glad that is not the norm now for my sons.

This was the best in the series so far. One would think that certain schools would already be starting to fill the void left by the top 30 schools having gleefully taken a big group crap on "red blooded" (your term) American males. But it doesn't yet seem to be happening. SMU and Richmond may be making some attempts, but they have a ways to go, reputation wise. U-FL is trying, but there's so much inertia there. Note that the schools can rightly claim that they are trying to feed in to what corporate America's H.R. Departments are demanding. So, maybe the colleges aren't off base?

Please make your videos brief. Go straight tonthe point. Cutting it down to 5 mins would be about right.

This video is hilarious, and you're 100% correct. These applications got you sounding like a biii (for lack of a better word but not really). No man who lets his nuts hang sounds or thinks like this, and it has nothing to do with intelligence. Men who do are usually coached by someone like you to get through this bull. And it's ridiculous cause you have to write all this bull just to get pressured into being an investment banker, consultant, or FAANG. If a kid could answer the why Harvard question honestly they'd say, "Because you're Harvard and you're a target school for Goldman Sachs." If Harvard could be honest they'd say, "We don't really care about your feelings, dreams, and ideals. Are you going to be rich and famous and send us more money for our endowment and make us look good on CNN and the WSJ?" Red blooded American men see through the bull and rather jump into business or the trades. It's a lame game that many men don't care to play.

i went to a community college in ohio first. i made sure to keep my gpa high as possible (3.5). i applied to Ohio and they accepted me.

I have no doubt this is an intentional exclusion as liberal women and a smattering of feminized, liberal men now control admissions on many (most?) college campuses.

My wife and I have three red blooded American boys, one in college and two in high school. We educate them on morals and values at home, we do not leave this part of their development to the schools. We have had ongoing conversations around the dinner table about the woke agenda and indoctrination in schools since they were all in Pre K. My boys see the system for what it is, are comfortable navigating the scholastic circus, and are excellent students. We also make sure they participate in red blooded boy extracurriculars (individual sports, martial arts, etc.). Parents, don't surrender to the schools!

These questionable "essays" are likely designed to "weed" out certain undesirables from the application process. We need to recognize that these same institutions require job applicants (e.g., Professors of all levels) to submit DEI Essays whereby they attest and submit to a world view that is agreeable with these institution's DEI Office. My understanding is that a compelled oath is also required for these individuals. My advice is to refrain from sending your students, boys or girls to these universities.

Live in silicon valley, not sure about that take about tech leading the dumbing down....I think that type of thinking came from left and far left areas like SF, Berkeley,Oak and possibly others. I am here for this series. I have one child, a 16 year old red blooded American boy.

I have two daughters and one son, all teenagers and I know how badly boys are treated, especially in elementary school. My son was sent to the college guidance counselor at his public high school this year to state his case for wanting to take some AP classes because he signed up for a few and the guidance counselor said the classes are competitive to get into. For my daughters wanting those same AP classes, no problem. My son isn't sure he wants to go to college. And when looking at common data sets of universities, it's almost always 60 percent or more female of the undergraduate population. This is and has been a problem. It's very rare to see 50 percent male students
